I have been involved in the 'dog world' since 1965, my father bred and showed Pembroke Welsh Corgis.  This love of the dog world saw me showing again in 1994, but with our forever breed the Labrador Retriever.  Although Brett and I have been absent from the show scene on occasions (due to our location) we have always followed the breed in Australia and across the world.  Our main involvement is the love of our dogs; health & wellbeing; showing; dog sports and lastly breeding.  We are very excited about the future of Mahelu Labrador Retrievers!
 
Our Prefix is derived from the first two initials of our three children (Luke, Matthew & Henry). Brett and I are registered members of Dogs Queensland, the Labrador Retriever Club of Queensland and the Ingham Kennel and Obedience Club.  We have had the pleasure of being owned by Labrador Retrievers for over 30 years now.  

We are a small dedicated kennel located in Weipa, Far North Queensland, Australia. We began our Labrador journey in 1994 in Rockhampton, Central Queensland where we travelled to NQ and FNQ for shows until we moved to Townsville, NQ and now Weipa, FNQ. 

We have been involved in Obedience, Endurance Test, and Agility, but mainly Conformation Showing.  We plan to become involved in numerous dog sport diciplines in the future.

Mahelu Labrador Retrievers focus on quality, soundness and type, but most of all the importance of a true Labrador temperament, drive and willingness to please. Our Labradors are part of our family, they live in our house, join us on camping adventures and holidays. We breed for ourselves first, this means we only breed to introduce a new member into our family. The other puppies in the litter are destined to become a loyal loving Labrador in your home.

We have had the pleasure of guiding many dogs to their Australian Championship title, whether they were our own dogs or loved by others.  

Mahelu is all about "Quality not Quantity" this is what we have strived for since starting in this breed in 1994. 
 
All our dogs undergo the mandatory health testing for our breed.  DNA health profiles, Hip and Elbow scoring, Eye testing and Heart testing before we consider them for our breeding program.
